I've been wanting a garden for some time now. 3-4 years at least.
I've planted in planters due to no garden space, but have longed for an actual bed to plant many different vegetables.
So, after lots and lots of hours spent removing dead grass, live grass, rocks and tons of roots, we finally got the garden cleaned and tilled. 90% of the cleaning and tilling came from my husband, bless his heart. Not his favorite activity, but because he knew how much it meant to me, he unselfishly put in hours and hard labor to make this happen for me.
This is the before photo. Nice and clean ready to accept whatever I put into it.
It is about 6' x 10' give or take. Here is the after photo. On the right side starting from the fence forward are 13 tomato plants. I'm so excited! In front of the tomatoes on the right side front corner are Lumina pumpkins. 3 of them. In the middle to the left of the tomatoes are 2 pole beans, in front of them are beets, to the left of the beets are red onions and behind the onions in the far back left corner are 6 sugar snap peas.
Peas on the inside, beans on the outside and red onions in front.

Peas again. The 'ladders' I found near a dumpster in a parking lot down at Titlow Beach. Trash to someone, treasure to me. I have no idea what they are for, or what they were used for, but I love them and I think they will do great supporting the peas and beans.
All of the above photos were planted about 2 weeks ago. This photo below and the rest below are updated photos of the garden along with some new members to the garden.
Here in the back in the blue pot is basil. It is a little weak and sad at the moment. I'm hoping it perks up soon. To the right in the box planter is cilantro, yum! And a marigold from my sister's mother in law for Mother's Day.
This is a bush shelling pea. It is supposed to not need stakes, but it was already trailing where I didn't want it to go, so I added a few stakes to keep it where I wanted it.
These are those itty bitty sugar snap peas that are now trailing all over. They are not quite tall enough to reach the ladders, so I added a couple dowels to help support them till they reach on their own.
These are two strawberry plants that seem to have grown overnight. They just got planted yesterday and are already bigger in size! They are covered since we have little squirrels that like to nibble. There is certainly no fruit yet, but we will start out being safe anyway.
Here is an updated picture of the pumpkins. It has doubled in size in just 2 weeks.
And here are the start of flowers on a couple tomato plants already.
Thanks for sharing my garden with me. I'm just ecstatic over the fact that it's doing so well. I usually am not so savvy when it comes to gardening and keeping things alive.
I've done lots of research and am keeping a journal also, so I think there is a good chance this will actually be plentiful.
You will notice the not so attractive mesh wire that is in the latter photos of the garden. I made the not so pleasing discovery that as soon as we had cleared the garden and planted some veggies, cats were making themselves at home in the nice clean dirt. Ick.
So, I read up on best ways to discourage them without harming them and found that they do not like stepping on wire or rocks or other such things as it does not feel good on their feet.
So, as unpleasant as it is to look at, it has positively stopped the cats from entering the garden. Love that!
Have a fantastic day!
